What is the history of Alta Vista?
The first subdivision in the Alta Vista area, Rideau Park, was built in 1892 on land that was part of the Billings Estate and used by market gardeners. The Alta Vista name dates to at least 1939. The area was part of Gloucester Township until Ottawa annexed it in 1950, and it was suburbanized from the 1950s.
